The Depth of Our Love

“I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God.” (Luke 12:8)

The above verse is not just about publicly declaring our faith, but it’s about the depth of our love and commitment.  Our love for God must transcend the expression of a vocal witness because it goes beyond mere words.

Although Jesus taught us that there are two commandments that are the greatest of all, He doesn't want us to consider them apart from each other.  The reason?  He also told us that when we love the least of these among our neighbors, we actually love Him, as they are members of His body.

We love God by loving neighbors.  How amazing it is to think that we can show our love for Jesus by meeting the pressing needs of His family members.  Knowing this also helps us to accurately gauge our love for Jesus.  How much do I love Jesus?  That answer is found in how much I love the least of these.

The depth of our love is measured, not by warm feelings, but by the amount of sacrifice. We are wise to ask ourselves, not "How much have I given?" but, "How much do I have remaining?"

Jesus taught, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
