“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22-25)
The Bible often uses the metaphor of fruit to describe the produce of our lives. Fruit can be either good or bad. (See Matthew 7:18) Romans 7:5 says, “For when we were controlled by the sinful nature….so that we bore fruit for death.” A fruitful Christian will produce better results. Proverbs 11:10 says that “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life…”
There are many ways Christians can be fruitful. True fruitfulness begins in the heart with the fruit of the Spirit. That inner fruit affects outward actions; our words and our activities will glorify the Lord, and God’s will is accomplished. God’s desire is to transform us into the image of Christ (See Romans 8:29) and make us as fruitful as He was.
Fruitfulness in the Christian faith is practically impossible when the believer is disconnected from God who is the source of supernatural strength and life.
We have to think of God as an eternal God, who has no beginning and no end. God sees us from an eternal perspective. Everything we ask of God He has already given to us to live a godly life here on this earth. We just need to believe and walk in the light of what He has already given us and stop asking Him for what we already have.
Self must be crucified. You must realize it is, “Not I but Christ.” As we walk under the power and control of the Holy Spirit, we are being led by the Spirit, and the fruit of the Holy Spirit will come through our life.
The result of spiritual fruitfulness is that God is glorified, we grow, and others come to know Christ. This is the ultimate fruitfulness for a child of God. (See Matthew 5:16)
