Taking a Dare!

When I was a kid, my brother and I would challenge each other to do something foolish, like jump off the roof of the front porch, with the saying “I double dare you.”  Now as adults, I believe God is calling the church to attempt great things for Him.

So today, I would like to “double dare you.”  To challenge you to attempt something so great for the Kingdom of God that it is doomed to failure, unless Christ is involved in it!

1) Try something so BIG, that you will fall flat on your face, unless God helps you and provides a way.

2) Look for things that others would say is impossible.  “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

3) God is looking for those who are ready to do His will; Leaning on the power of God, and not that of your own.

4) Look for unusual opportunities to serve God.
While in Seminary, Alice and I studied under Professor Carroll Fowler.  He was an awesome man of God, and known in church planting circles as a bit of a rogue.  Some people did not care for his style of working in the field, but he was known for his years of success as a church planter in several mid-western states.  In all the things he taught us, the one thing that I will forever remember is his belief that we should “never be afraid to color outside the lines.”  Others would call it, “thinking outside the box."
Scripture reminds us that "...my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 55:8)

5) Are you supposed to lead a mission trip, or lead a Bible Study for children, adults or seniors? Are you supposed to develop your own Ministry? If God leads you to it, He will lead you through it. Learn how to listen to God's prompting and His will for your life.

God has a unique purpose for you.  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)  God did not create you to be just one of the crowd. God has great plans for you, and developing an attitude of discovery and openness to Him is the best way to learn where you can be most effectively used, given the unique talents and desires He alone gave to you.

6) Don't be afraid to ask for the favor of a King, Nehemiah did it though he risked death. (Nehemiah 2:1-8)  One of the best ways to discover if the path you are on is God’s desire, is whether He grants favor along the way.  God will bless and enable plans that are in accordance with His bidding, but you have to ask for favor.

7) Be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus prayed, "My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done." (Matthew 26:42)

It is normal, and okay, to be afraid, it is not okay to walk away.  Jesus walked in our shoes and experienced everything we did, including fear.  To face His fear, Jesus prayed, and after seeking God's will and strength followed with determination the path that had been placed before him.
